Prolific US Mint engraver James Longacre created the Coronet Double Eagle series minted 1849-1907.
These large gold pieces contained nearly one full troy ounce of pure 24K gold.
With a broad diameter of 34mm and hefty weight of 33.44 grams, these are very substantial gold coins.
This 1862 double eagle variety was minted at the Philadelphia Mint without a mint mark.
As classic US gold coins from the 19th century, these remain in high demand by collectors and investors.
