1862 Philadelphia Mint Gold Double Eagle

The obverse depicts a left-facing bust of Liberty wearing a coronet inscribed “LIBERTY”.

The reverse shows a majestic heraldic eagle design holding arrows, olive branch, and shield.

Prolific US Mint engraver James Longacre created the Coronet Double Eagle series minted 1849-1907.

These large gold pieces contained nearly one full troy ounce of pure 24K gold.
